Compact geometry is a frame design

that has a sloping top tube and

(in most cases) a shorter head tube that a 'traditional' geometry.


This results in smaller front and rear triangles...

in other words, a 'compact' frame geometry.

Increased Comfort.

Because increased seatpost extension allows the post to flex, offering more vertical compliance than on a traditional frame design; compact geometry results in a more compliant ride.


Lighter Weight.

Smaller triangles use less material and are therefore lighter.


Increased Efficiency.

Smaller triangles flex less laterally under pedalling loads, so compact geometry improves power transfer.


Better Fit.

Compact geometry can allow a near-custom fit. For example, a rider with short legs but a long torso can now ride an appropriate bike, right off the rack.
In the past, these riders have been unable to find the proper fit on stock traditional geometry bikes.
Compact geometry, with its lower top tube, eliminates stand over clearance as a parameter for fitting.
Now the rider with shorter legs can be sized to a bike with an appropriately long cockpit.
